Wireless vs. Wired vs. GPS Dog Fence – Which Is Right for You?

Feature Wireless (This System) Wired / In-Ground GPS Fence
Installation None – plug and play Requires burying wire around perimeter None – app/satellite based
Boundary shape Circular radius (30–800 ft) Any custom shape Custom polygon via app
Signal interference Large metal structures, dense tree lines, and multi-story buildings can reduce effective radius Minimal – wire defines boundary regardless of obstacles Depends on GPS satellite lock; can lag in heavy tree cover
Portability Highly portable – great for travel Fixed installation Portable – collar links to app
Multi-dog support Up to 3 dogs (included) Additional collars sold separately Additional collar/subscription per dog
Ongoing cost None after purchase None after installation Often requires monthly subscription
Best for Open yards, renters, travelers, multi-dog homes Permanent yards with irregular shapes or heavy obstacles Large rural properties, off-leash hiking

Note on trees and buildings: Wireless radio signals travel in a circular pattern from the transmitter. Large metal structures, dense rows of trees, or multi-story buildings located between the transmitter and the boundary edge can reduce or distort the effective containment radius in that direction. For yards with significant obstacles of this type, a wired in-ground system may provide more consistent boundary accuracy.

Collar Fit Checklist – Before You Put It On

A properly fitted collar is essential for reliable signal contact and your dog's comfort. Work through this checklist before first use:

  • Check neck size: Measure your dog's neck circumference with a soft tape measure. The collar should accommodate necks fitting within the product's adjustment range.
  • Two-finger rule: After fastening, slide two fingers under the collar. You should feel light resistance — not tight, not loose.
  • Contact point placement: Position the receiver/contact points at the front-center or side of the neck — never resting on the throat or spine.
  • Fur and skin contact: On dogs with long or thick coats, part the fur so the metal contact points rest directly against the skin. Poor skin contact can cause inconsistent corrections or missed warnings.
  • Check for pressure points: After 30 minutes of wear, inspect the contact areas for any redness or irritation. Rotate collar position slightly if needed.
  • Recheck after activity: Collars can shift during running or play. Re-verify fit and contact placement after the first outdoor session.
  • Never leave on unsupervised for extended periods: Remove the collar after training sessions and avoid leaving it on for more than 8–12 hours continuously.

Important: Always introduce training gradually and supervise during initial use. Designed for responsible pet training.
